No food until the next year, the people of Kajkwakhratxi-Tapayuna to ask for help
The campaign seeks to raise money for the 44 families who are going without food after the fire.
The people’s Kajkwakhratxi-Tapayuna in the Village of Kawêrêtxikô, in the Land of the Indigenous Capoto Jarina, in the state of Mato Grosso, lives for drama: the gardens is burnt, the seeds lost, and the air too stuffy, following a fire that struck the area.
Yaiku Suya Tapayuna, one of the organizers, said that the fire started at the beginning of September, in the villages of the area. But, at the end of the month, came to the community, which was just surrounded on all sides by the fire.

“The fire came from both sides, the top and the bottom of the Xingu river. He burned them all in the garden, the forest and the natural medicines,” said Yaiku.
The Association of the Indigenous Tapayuna (AIT) has classified the fire as the worst part of the story, it turned to ashes in the woods on the outskirts of the community, putting at risk the survival of the 44 families.
“No rain, no humidity, and the fire it does not give you rest. It destroyed our trees, our bugs, our herbal medicines. He burned our crops, cassava, sweet potatoes, yams, watermelons, and pumpkins. We are indian and live in the forest. The nearest grocery store is within an eight-hour drive away. We don’t have any more food,” said the association in a letter.
In addition to the lack of food, and the people are suffering from the smoke, and many of the 432 residents of sick leave, according to the association.
“To the best of our houses of straw, not able to breathe properly. The forest aflame, and they have been burning our eyes off of our necks. Even with a cough, sore throat, headache, and dyspnea, all of the adults, and the elderly, they have to walk for miles to try and find something to eat. Non-‘re only just holding it more,” she said.
Wetaktxi the Tapayuna, the president of the first INTERNATIONAL, also called attention to the lack of availability of drugs, both the traditional ones and the conventional ones in the village. “We are sick because of the smoke. Many had to go to the pharmacy to take the remedy, and each and every day decreases with the pressure. Some of them have gone,” he said.
The situation is even more complex, according to Yaiku, because the community is located on the site of a difficult-to-access, and, in times of emergency, with a lot of people, they find it difficult to get out of the area. And it’s a boat, and motor vehicles, which they did not have to help the movement.
