A tribute to Alessandra Alves de Arruda Guató

We deeply regret the death, on Wednesday (22), Alessandra Alves de Arruda, Guató, 41. In addition to being an important indigenous leader from the state of Mato Grosso, it was recognized by your peers in the course as a person is to be determined, sensitive, mysterious, loving, and loyal to his ideals.

Originally from the village of Terradinho, Indian Land, a Bay of the Guató, Janice fought for six years against cancer. Even during this period of time, he never gave up the fight and the mission. He was the current president of the Organization of Women in the indian state of Mato Grosso (Takiná).

During his tenure at the indian movement, took control of the struggles of the territory, and in the defence of the people of the Pantanal, as well as contributing to education for indigenous people, and with the european union, and the mobilization of women.

“Janice has fought for territory, for the organization, its people, Guató, the organization of the women, out of respect for his family, for the recognition of the people below. They fought for many reasons, and all of the following stronger due to its major contribution,” said Ivar Busatto, the general coordinator of OPAN.

The people of the Guató you live, from ancient times, in the floodplains of the state of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and two countries. Guadakan (the Pantanal in the language of the Guató is the home of their ancestors and their descendants. Janice leaves behind a remarkable legacy of struggle and resistance.
