Women, Xavante, collection of seeds, give it a new step in your job

Gathered together in the Land of the Indigenous Marãiwatsédé, collection updates a model for the management of the activities in partnership with OPAN, and the Seeds out of the Xingu river

The women of the Xavante collection of seeds, which a decade ago, they began their organization, you have now, with 120 people on board. Through this initiative, run-down areas are brought to life in and outside of the Land of the Indigenous Marãiwatsédé.

The Operation in the Amazon’s Native (OPAN) has been supporting the organization of women since the beginning of this journey, in 2011, contributing to the design of the work, the mapping of the areas of data collection, conducting training, and, on an annual basis, a survey of the species, weighing and shipping of seeds. Now, on the steps of a year’s work shall be made directly to the Seed of the Park. The co-ordinator of the area is to strengthen the diversity in the Network of the Seeds of the reserve, by Claudia Alves de Araújo, who told him that the Xavante are of great importance in the network, the group that collects the greatest quantity, with quality work. “These are networks that you are careful with your seed,” he said.

In the Network of the Seeds of the reserve contributes to the deforestation in the regions of the Cerrado and the Amazon forest and the harvest of farms in the region of the Xingu and Araguaia river, in the municipalities of Association, Canarana, and the Birds and the Nova Xavantina.
