The “Arapaima: productive networks” project, carried out with funding from the Amazon Fund, helped to strengthen indigenous peoples and extractivists in the Middle Juruá River and Middle Solimões regions of Amazonas.
The project benefited the Deni, Katukina, Kokama, Kambeba and Tikuna peoples, as well as residents of the Uacari Sustainable Development Reserve (RDS), the Médio Juruá Extractive Reserve (Resex) and the Cujubim RDS, in sustainable management initiatives for pirarucu and non-timber forest products.
The Arapaima project has also contributed to territorial protection work, making it possible to develop joint actions aimed at strengthening the community and conserving the environment.
Participating in the project were the Jutaí Indigenous Peoples’ Council (Copiju), the Cujubim RDS Extractivists’ Association (AERDSC), the Uacari RDS Residents’ Association (Amaru) and the Xeruã River Deni People’s Association (Aspodex). The work was also supported by the Carauari Rural Producers’ Association (Asproc).
