– A lawyer for the indigenous in the Baré people, and an important voice in the fight for the guarantee of the rights of indigenous peoples

We want to express our deepest sense of regret at the passing of the Dra. Cristiane Soares de Baré, indigenous leader of the Black River, and an important voice of advocacy in the fight for the guarantee of the rights of indigenous peoples.

Chris Baré, as it was known, was the legal advisor to the Coordination of the Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon (Coiab), and represent the organization as amicus curiae before the u.s. Supreme Court (the SUPREME court), which is making for the support of the oral law as originating in, and against a Framework of time.

During the difficult period of the pandemic, a lawyer, has led to allegations of death threats and killings of indigenous leaders in the inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the UN, representing the Special Committee for the Protection of the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples of the brazilian bar association-OAB. Chris was part of the Network of Lawyers, Indigenous peoples of the Amazon region, and was the co-founder and partner of the Fund, the Indian Podáali.

Even in poor health, a lawyer, had a presence in the Camp Ground this year. He was a warrior tired of working, and falling in love with you that he lived the struggle of the indigenous movement and up to the last days of his life.

It is highly esteemed by all, and his departure-cause tremendous grief. His example is the lighthouse and he will continue inspiring and motivating for all of us. We want to express our solidarity with, and welcoming to your family, friends, and fellow members of the indigenous movement.
